A few years after his birth, which was, incidentally, May
12, 1971, in the tumbleweed town of Abilene, Texas, CS Jennings discovered
the pencil and crayon. Thus began his artistic career. Early subjects
included clowns, after that, pirates. In elementary school he honed his
skills on the drawing of horses (though it is widely rumored he drew
them only because of their popularity with the elementary school dames).
He drew knights. He drew cats. Then cats in rock bands. Then cats with
mad karate skills. Shark comics. Suicide mouse comics. Indeed, he was
prolific in his early work.
He
obtained his degree in Design Communication with a private study in
Illustration from the University of Central Oklahoma.
While at the university he drew a cartoon strip and editorial cartoons
for the school's newspaper. (His series on political correctness was
utilized by the university's debate team, though to what effect, he
never knew.) He was Awarded Outstanding Art Student of the Year in
1994. That
same year he won an Addy Award for illustration work in the school's
promotional piece.
For
four years he was the Fort Worth Star Telegram's sports editorial cartoonist
and continues to contribute to the paper.
He has provided illustrations for several magazines and children's
publications. Most recently, he was an animation lead for Richard
Linklater's animated
film, A Scanner Darkly (to be released in March, 2006). As an experienced
freelance illustrator working in the publishing industry, operating
within deadline specs and quick turnarounds are his specialty.
CS Jennings currently resides in Austin, Texas.
